GTR test drive

August 28, 2008

I drove a GTR today and I have to say it is very nice.  I think it is the best street car I have ever driven.  I only did three laps at the Motorsport Ranch but that was enough to feel the performance Nissan has put into this great car.  The power is strong and the all wheel drive is very good.  One of the coolest things is a computer system that has a timing system build in.  On the steering wheel are buttons that you can use to keep your lap times.  I was really impressed with this function.  The computer system does much more but I didn’t have enough time to play with it.  I’m hoping to get more time with the car to test all the computer functions.  All in all the Nissan GTR is a great car and worth all the hype.

Hotter N Hell 100 Race Day

August 23, 2008

We got woke up at 4am to get ready for the race. I ate breakfast and got all my water bottles ready before Riley’s Dad dropped us off near the starting line. The race starts at 7am but we needed to get there before that to get a good starting position.

RACE: Bruce and I started together and rode the first 20 miles together. At the 20 mile rest stop I took off and never saw Bruce again. I was riding about 20mph for the first 20 miles then I picked it up. The thing that helped the most was getting drafts. I would jump on a train of guys and we would crews at 22-28mph. I did that for about 65 miles making great time. Then my right foot started hurting the last 15 miles of the race. I have never felt my foot hurt like this. That made me slow down to about 16mph. I would try to get onto a train but it just hurt too much. Even with my last 15 miles in great pain I ran the 100 mile race in a time of 4hr 59mins and I never stopped the entire race. Just under 5 hours. That is much better than I thought I was going to do. I was shooting for under 6 hours and hoping for under 5hrs 30mins. Riley ran a time of 4hrs 11mins. I was very pleased with that result.

After I got off my bike, I went and cooled off in a huge spray of cold water. That felt great in the 102 degree temp. Then I just sat down for a few minutes before getting something to drink. It took me about 20 mins before I felt human again. Then I just waited for Bruce to finish. He ran a time of 5hrs 52mins. That was his personal best. Then we went back to the house to shower and eat lunch before we drove home. All in all it was a great trip and race. Now I want to improve my bike and do another race.

Hotter N Hell 100 Settling In

August 22, 2008

There are over 10,000 people that ride in this race and Wichita Falls is a small town and hotel rooms are hard to come by.  So many families open up their houses to riders.  We were lucky to have some friends riding in the race as well and they found a family that would put us all up.  One of the guys staying in the house, Riley, is a 17 year old Olympic hopeful.   It was cool talking to him about his training and diet.  His bike was about $8,000 more than mine.

After we got to the house, Bruce  and I went up and registered for the race and went around the convention center.  We talked to various vendors and later had a big spaghetti dinner that the Hotter N Hell even puts on.  It was surprisingly good spaghetti.  Then we went back to the house and just went to bed.

Hotter N Hell 100 Trip

August 22, 2008

I’m leaving is a few minutes.  I am going to meet up with my buddy Bruce and we are going to drive up together.  Before I meet up with him I’m going to get a massage.  I think that will help.

Hotter N Hell 100

August 21, 2008

I have been training for months for the Hotter N Hell 100 mile race in Witchita Falls.  I have been riding 100 to 150  miles a week and I’m as ready as I can get at this point.  I have never been in a bike race before and I’m very interested in seeing how everything goes.  Although I’m just in the fun ride part I’m taking it very serious and I want to put in a good time.  Based on my training I can do the 100 miles in 6 hours.  I’m hoping to do it under 5hr 30mins.  The pros can do the 100 miles in about 4hrs.  I’m really looking forward to this.

What could you do with 2 Million?

August 19, 2008

All I can say is WOW! This car is a thing of beauty, but for that sticker price it should fly or at least come with a jet pack…

Top speed of around 225 mph. Put the top back and the Grand Sport will reach just over 250 mph.

These incredible stats are made possible by the Veyron’s 8-liter W16 engine, equipped with four turbo chargers that send 1,001 horsepower to all four wheels. With enormous amounts of torque, the Veyron Grand Sport can reach 62 mph (100 kph) in just 2.5 seconds.

All that performance and exclusivity comes at a high price. The Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport will be priced at 1.4 million euros (just over $2 million) when it becomes available next March. For that one buyer who  needed to be first on the list, the right to the first Veyron Grand Sport was auctioned at the Pebble Beach Auction presented by Gooding & Company. With the amount over the asking price going to charity, the winning bid for the new Grand Sport was $3.19 million.

I love personal license plates

August 12, 2008

I saw this license plate today on my way in to the office.  If this plate was on any other vehicle you may think the owner is a postal worker.  It just so happens that this plate is on a supercharged G35 Coupe, so it makes sense.

Nissan GTR

Nissan GTR

Today has to be one of my most proud days as a Nissan/Infiniti dealer. I have been waiting for years to be able to drive the much talked about Nissan GTR and today is that great day. The Nissan store brought over this red beauty and tossed me the intelligent key to take it for a spin. Needless to say, I did not hesitate to put it through the tests…at least as much as I could on Airport Freeway between Fort Worth and Dallas. Luckily no cops spotted me in my fast test drive.
I must say that this has to be the finest track ready street car sold today. From the track tires and set up, to the Grand Tourismo style computer, this car has it all. Not to mention the looks are amazing and photos don’t do this car justice. You have to see one in person. Not that you will see one on the showroom, but maybe on the street. Just don’t stare. It’s not nice, as mom used to say. No, go ahead and stare. You know you want to. I will do a track review soon…
